When my wife started to build her business using the internet, she thought it was going to be easy, but after several months of trying she realised it was not. It turned out to be a long and difficult road on which she found many obstacles. Being new to the world of internet marketing, she had to build an effective strategy to address this seemingly unlimited market. She did a lot of research, but found that most sources on the web giving people advice on how to strike it rich using internet turned out to be too good to be true. After a lot of trial and error, she finally realised that to be successful Social Media Marketing (SMM) was an important - perhaps even critical – part of her internet marketing strategy.
Where previously she solely relied on search engines, she now is able to access a new and much more efficient and cost effective marketing channel. There is no other low-cost marketing method out there that will easily give you large numbers of visitors, some of whom may come back to your website again and again. It is an easier way to get traffic since it relies on word of mouth, but that does mean you need to be trustworthy and offer something of value.
If you are selling products/services or just publishing content for ad revenue, social media marketing is a potent method that will make your site profitable over time. Of course, it does require good content, in other words a product or service for which there is a market. Without it, you will not be able to sustain your business.
Smart marketers, including my wife, participate in social media because that is where the people are.
